Renata Silva

Trained in São Paulo, arrived in Brooklyn in 2009 with a lash kit and no clients, and opened the walk-up two years later. She now teaches volume technique across three continents and still takes clients four days a week, because she says she stops being able to teach it the moment she stops doing it.

Her fans are built by hand at the chair rather than pre-made, which is why her sets take longer than anywhere else in the neighbourhood and why they sit the way they do.

Head of Nails

Jade Okafor

Came from a high-volume salon in Queens in 2014 and immediately threw out our entire nail system in favour of structural builder gel. Fourteen thousand sets later, she has had eleven come back with lifting inside four weeks, and she can name all eleven.

If you have ever had a set lift in week one, book Jade and let her explain apex placement to you. She will, at length, and you will leave understanding your own nails.

Brow Specialist

Mira Castellanos

Rebuilds brows that the nineties took. Her reconstruction programme runs in six-month blocks with monthly check-ins, and the first consultation is free because she refuses to charge somebody for being told their brows will grow back.

She is also the calmest person in the building, which matters when the appointment is emotional — and with brow reconstruction, it often is.

Alix Moreau

Our hand for shoots, shows and anything that has to photograph loud. Chrome, hand-painting, hardware, and the occasional set that takes four hours and ends up on somebody's magazine cover.

Between client days she is usually backstage somewhere, which is why her studio availability is thin and always released in a block on the first of the month.

Senior Lash Artist

Deniz Kaya

Came through our apprenticeship in 2019 and is now the person we put in front of anybody nervous, anybody with sensitive eyes, and anybody who has had a bad reaction elsewhere. Patch tests on Monday mornings are hers.

Specialises in hybrid and wispy sets, and has a particular thing about lash health that occasionally means she will send you away for a fortnight.

Priya Menon

Runs the pedicure room and does the real callus work that most places have quietly stopped offering. Eleven years in podiatry-adjacent care before she came to us, which shows in how she handles feet nobody else wants to touch.

Also our fastest gel manicure without cutting a single corner, which we have timed and still do not entirely understand.

The apprenticeship.

Eighteen months, paid from day one, and no paying clients until the end of it. Apprentices work on the team, on models, and on a very large number of mannequin heads, and they are assessed by two artists rather than one.

Four of the nine artists in this building came through it. We open one place a year, usually in September, and the only requirement is that you can sit still and concentrate for three hours.

Model days

Apprentices need real faces. Model sessions are heavily discounted, take twice as long, and are always supervised by the artist training them — sign up at the desk or by email.
